Be Honest: How Does My Accent and overall Voice Sound?

Fulcrum1313
I'm starting a YouTube channel dedicated to my film theories, and for the past month or two, I’ve been practicing my accent and voice. I think I’ve improved, but I’m still unsure if it’s good enough for YouTube. Does it actually sound okay, or am I overthinking it? My voice: [https://voca.ro/1lghABnzTlIV](https://voca.ro/1lghABnzTlIV) The main thing I feel I might be missing is rhythm, my accent is obviously noticeable but I'm not sure to what extent? Is my accent that bad, or is it okay, I'd appreciate a rating from 1 to 10 both for my accent and clarity of understanding my voice! Maybe I need to speak a bit faster to sound more engaging, but I’m not certain. How noticeable is my accent? Is it 100% clear and enjoyable to listen to? And how noticeable is my accent actually? Or are there specific things I should work on to improve?

You sound good buddy. I had no problem understanding you! Best of luck.

Your accent isn’t distracting you me honestly. You have good intonation instead of being monotone. I feel that your voice is engaging! I’d give your voice/accent an 8 as there were a few words (very tiny amount) that weren’t as clear but still even so it wasn’t hard to understand. I think the pace could be a little faster but not too much as you are explaining things so you don’t want to be too fast. If I came across this video I wouldn’t think twice about your voice nor your accent and would just enjoy the content. Good luck on your YouTube journey!!

You’ve asked for honest feedback, so I’ll be frank. It’s interesting because for me it’s not immediately obvious where you are from. There are some sounds that are unusual (eg some “th” become z or sh or something), some words become “swallowed” (like unclear, mumbled almost), and there’s overall some unusual prosody. The overall impression isn’t an identifiable accent but rather an unusual speech pattern. Someone might guess you speak English as a second language, or maybe from some country where the accent is unfamiliar. They might also think there’s just a speech impediment and/or neurodiversity at play. I say that without intending to malign you or my neurodiverse brothers and sisters! It’s very understandable, and has a pleasant timbre. I’m sure as you relax the more deliberate cadence will loosen.

\[native English speaker from USA\] Thanks for sharing the sample. Your speech was 100 percent understandable to me. However, if your goal is to make a YouTube channel in English, I think you may need more improvement. The main thing that I noticed was that your speed of speech was slow - slow enough that I think it would become frustrating while watching a long video. The second thing I noticed was that your accent is unfamiliar to me, and I'm sorry to say, for me it was sort of unpleasant. I noticed an exaggerated sing-song quality with dramatic changes in pitch, and a lot of what sounded like lisping. Sorry to give you some criticism, but keep practicing and good luck!

My husband overheard me listening to your voice, and he said, "is that your brother"? My brother is an American native speaker, so, that's a compliment for you!
