'Out of’ sounds natural, but if you’re asking the reason for the scam, then ‘for’ is suitable.

“Off of” can always be shortened to “off”, that being said it’s incorrect in this instance. Anyways, that’s just a footnote, other commenters provided the correct answerÂ
