What person do you just love listening to because of their advanced english?

Mindless_Reveal3902
Hi everyone! I'm new to this community. Despite being a native English speaker, I live in a nation where almost no one speaks the language well. I came to the realisation that this usually affects me; hearing English that has been simplified all the time has caused my English to deteriorate. The fact that everyone is only using simple everyday language makes watching YouTube videos useless as well. I've tried reading more difficult books and taking courses to improve my skills, but I've found that listening to something repeatedly in podcasts or videos helps me learn it much more easily. I would like to know which YouTube channels, well-known individuals, or podcasts you enjoy listening to due to their use of advance English. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, M. R.

I enjoy Marina Hyde in the Rest is Entertainment podcast. She’s an intelligent person with a good vocabulary — not specifically “advanced” but just well-spoken (no doubt partly because she’s a journalist). I often take note of the way she words things so I can steal phrases and words from her.

Christopher Lee is a joy to listen to imo. His voice and intonation are just amazing, especially when he got older. His Saruman impression in LOTR is just superb. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef4njNsDVos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef4njNsDVos)

I love Stephen Fry's use of English. He's a British presenter, actor, writer and former comedian. He's extremely erudite and intelligent, and has a perfect example of an RP accent (not saying everyone should speak RP - I certainly don't, but for me there's an elegance in how he speaks). In fact he did a radio show on the English language itself called Fry's English Delight, which you can get on YouTube!

I watch Dungeons and Dragons campaigns from Dimension20. Many campaigns are free (some are behind the paywall). It is a group of 5-7 players that are actually improv actors, writers and comedians. The videos are a a little long (2 hrs avg). But I have built so much vocabulary through these videos. And not to mention they are super entertaining. Brennan and Abria are the main storytellers and I love their vocabulary. Here’s a link to their channel: https://youtube.com/@dimension20show?feature=shared Let me know if you need more help in figuring out what Dimension20 or DnD is. Cheers!

You will sound so posh if you browse some of Eugen Weber's The Western Tradition, which are lectures about Western art and history. Old school but pretty pictures. Listen and learn. Edit: they are all on YT

If you want to specifically listen to something, I suggest audiobooks. Since they're wriiten originally, they tend to have a much more varied and advanced vocabulary than anyone just speaking.

I find British comedian Stephen Fry's command of the English language really delightful to listen to.

Try this one “A slight change of the plans”_ it’s a podcast channel and they speak great English. Mainly the host, she’s perfect.

The Mel Robbins Podcast, I love the way she speaks and she often has pretty interesting guests on her podcast, most of the times researchers, doctors, etc.
