Yes,without a doubt that is a typo. Also sorry about all the people in the comments being condescending.

If it were from a random article on the internet, I would definitely regard it a typo. But it's from ABC News website. That's why I couldn't make sure whether it is a typo or not. So I posted this question here. Thanks to all who answered my question seriously. Happy new year!

Yes, definitely a typo.

I mean obviously???
I understand that when learning languages sometimes you can't be sure about things but you gotta learn to go with your gut sometimes. What other explanation could there be? And if you still have second thoughts, feed the potential word into Wiktionary and see if anything comes up. Nothing will.

Yes, a pretty easy typo to make, since the i and o keys are right next to each other.

Might be controversial but a good place to check whether something is a typo or not is actually with chatGPT. You can also use it for unique slangs, vernacular, and shorthand/abbreviation; it’s been 100% accurate for me. Honestly it’s just a great tool to learn in general (in my opinion)

yes, a typo. we are in the post-proofreader era! (in case that sentence is unclear to you, i am making a reference to newsrooms and publishers eliminating or outsourcing most or all proofreader staff jobs.)
