Please judge my accent

NonchalantSquirrel
Although I've been practicing English for quite some time now, I find it extremely difficult to lose my accent. So I'd like to know how thick it sounds to native speakers and whether it's hard to understand what I'm saying in the recording below: [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hz2L2lmuudBtRqOIDvXEBz2MOoqgtgkI/view](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hz2L2lmuudBtRqOIDvXEBz2MOoqgtgkI/view)

You sound fine to me. I’m in the US and I think most of us like hearing the slight accent. You are as easy to understand as everyone else but it is noticeable you are from “somewhere else” (and again most of us think that’s cool)

You honestly speak really well. I dont know how to explain it but youve got a very mild "Euro-American" accent. I feel a lot of Europeans adopt the American accent and it has this certain sound to it. Or am I mistaken?

You're completely understandable and your accent is pleasant. You don't need to lose it. Having said that, you've done good work. A lot of the consonants and the rhythms are spot-on, and those are more nuanced areas. "Waterfall" is pretty tricky and yours is spotless, like, indistinguishable from the "general American accent." I got trained in accent training so I wanted to see if I could diagnose specific things. It's hard to say! It sounds to me as if you're a bit confused about what "H" does (you kind of said "fresh hair" and "exp-herience") so I would guess you were French. I think the most important place to work is your vowels. Some are good, some sound a little "European," and some sound almost a bit overly-corrected, like you handle them almost \*too\* gently - which also kind of makes me think French, because French requires a lot of gentleness to pronounce well. An example of that might be "Sound." The "n" disappears a little far. It does disappear a little in English, but it would disappear even more in French. Some of your vowels will collapse almost to an "uh" sound. That does happen in English in some words, like "the." But it doesn't happen as much on emphasized syllables in nouns, for example. For example, "followed" sounded a bit like "fullowed." You can practice this vowel by opening your mouth a little wider. Also, the "O" in "Whole" also sounded a bit like "Hull." Your articulations are great, but your rhythm can be a little choppy. I would wonder what you sound like in a natural conversation, because some of that halting rhythm is something that comes out in reading. But, I wouldn't expect the syllables to fall so satisfyingly into place if it was just an awkward reading experience. You can most specifically hear what I'm talking about in "un-for-gettable and re-juvenating." The "-gettable" and "-juvenating" are super satisfying, your rhythm and flow are spot on. But their connection to their previous syllables was overly articulated. Hope that wasn't too much critique. I wanted to see what I remembered from my course, and your accent is developed enough that it was a nice challenge. You sound really good. Don't "improve" any more than you really want to.

Very good; not difficult to understand at all.

It is clear to me that you have an accent, but it is not an impediment to my ear in any way. Your more mid to advanced vocabulary flows naturally and is used correctly. There are some thick accents that are difficult even with practice for an experienced person, but yours is light enough I doubt even a listener with little exposure to other accents would have difficulty conversing. It sounds as if you have some chewing gum wadded up in one cheek, or perhaps had a couple of beers. Nothing that would raise an eyebrow in any casual setting (and which could be ignored in a professional/polite setting once it was clear you were being polite).

If I didn't have context, I would have mistaken you for a native speaker. It's seriously THAT refined.

You have a very good American accent. I think I am only occasionally hearing slight palatalizations from Hindi maybe.
