What does this phrase means?

Nithkaz
I listened this phrase from a song "sleeping within the dreaming deep" and I'm a bit confused about it, is "deep" refering to "sleeping" (like sleeping deep) or to "dreaming" (like a deep dream)? Or is it saying something like sleeping within the depths of a dream?

It's kind of both. If you are deep sleeping you are sleeping within the depths of a dream. You can only be deep sleeping in a deep dream. You can't lightly sleep in a deep dream. You can't deeply dream in a light dream.

The way I would interpret it without context (and the song might have context that changes the interpretation) is that "deep" here is "the deep" - that is, the parts of the ocean far below the surface, or *anything* that could be metaphorically interpreted as such. In this case, someone happens to be sleeping in it, and it also happens to be dreaming. Given that it's also a song, which is probably trying to be poetic... effectively just "fast asleep and dreaming".

The second one. Deep is behaving as a noun.

it’s really awkward phrasing though that people would it typically use in real life. Sometimes lyrics can be that way.

Since the question was answered already, just as a note, it should be worded as: What does this phrase **mean**?
