What do the words in yellow mean? I thought ‘batter’ was like a pummel or strike. Should it be butter? Might sound silly but that’s what I thought

Google “batter noun definitions.” Same for “sod” definitions. Not trying to be rude or dismissive, but learning how to research/find definitions for specific words on your own is really useful and helpful. Use dictionaries! You don’t need to post on reddit.

This is something that could easily be looked up in a dictionary or on google

Batter is a foodstuff, a coating, made of flour or breadcrumbs, used in a variety of recipes. Famously used to coat fish before being fried in our national dish of Fish and Chips, it’s also used to coat chicken nuggets, fish fingers etc, ie cheap, mass produced foodstuffs that children typically eat and enjoy, which is the context in the text here. You are correct that to ‘batter’ someone also means to beat them comprehensively in a contest or also to beat them up physically. ‘Sod’ as in ‘sod everyone else’ is a mild profanity, meaning ‘never mind/forget everyone else’. It is used as a milder version of ‘fuck’ in ‘sod off’, or ‘I haven’t a sodding clue’, for example, but be aware that it doesn’t replace Fuck like for like in every situation. You can also call someone a sod, if you are annoyed or unhappy with them perhaps. A ‘sod’ is the uppermost layer of turf that is used for laying a lawn; though I’m not sure how it relates to the profane version I’ve outlined above.

One thing - batter specifically is a liquid mixture for baking. If the mixture is solid, it is called dough.

In these comments, we're learning the cultural and linguistic intricacies of insults and profanity. An important step in any language journey.

"Batter" in this sense refers to a wet mixture of ingredients (such as those for a cake, or to coat something that is to be deep fried). This usage is actually very similar to the other meaning, to beat or strike someone or something. In the sense of cooking, a batter is made by beating together ingredients (typically egg, flour, sugar, and butter) until them come together. "Sod" here is British slang and it's a vulgarity derived from "Sodom" or "sodomy" and it refers to a sex act. You could read the sentence as "Fuck everyone else." As far as profanity goes, "sod" seems less profane than "fuck".

It may be worth mentioning that all uses of batter come from "beat." If you beat a person, you've battered them; if you beat flour and liquid together, you've made batter whether for cake or frying..

Batter is the coating you put on things you fry (ie beer-battered fish and chips) Also cake batter is a thing that involves generally eggs/flour etc.

In this context the ‘batter’ is referring to the floury-chalk residue in which many bowlers use to help ease the ball leave their hands/fingers painlessly, but sod just means to disregard it

Google the definition of batter (noun)
Easy-Cardiologist555
In technical cooking terms, a batter is simply an amalgamation of wet and dry ingredients, usually involving at a minimum flour and water. Most popular would be things cake batter or pancake/waffle batter. Another popular one in the USA would be the cornbread style batter in which corn dogs are dipped in before they are fried. As far as consistency, it would be thinner than a bread dough, yet thicker than water, so as to still be pourable.

Thanks for everyone who helped. If you wanna see my Google search history, you will find more than 20 words per day. I know how to use “sodding” Google, but when I don’t find what I am aiming for, I come here as a last resort. I use google and merriam dictionary, Deep L and sometimes ChatGPT. Have a nice day or night

Batter had multiple meanings depending on how it is used. The way you use it in your post is as a verb. As a verb it means to hit something multiple times. The way it is seen in your picture is as a noun. As a noun it means a mixture of flour, eggs, and water. Like the stuff you use to make a cake and other baked goods, or the stuff you coat good in before deep frying it. It is different from dough because it describes recipes that are more liquid. Dough describes mixtures that are more solid, like bread or cookies. Sod is a British English expletive, usually used as "sod off" basically meaning fuck off. Though I'm not British, I believe it is considered a mostly acceptable/casual swear, but someone can correct me on that.

Batter is what pancakes, doughnuts its also used in savoury dishes. to coat sausage in batter for example. it's fried. Typical ingredients are flour milk and eggs there are plenty of variants it's very runny or fluid. when not cooked. Sod is in this context is short for sodomize bits that anyone would use the full form It's a lot less offensive when shortened just a rude rejection.
