Are there any variants on the idiom “down the rabbit hole”? I saw one where one word is replaced with another word. But I can’t remember it.

Some people say "down the rathole", usually in the context of money. It's nowhere near as common as the rabbithole though. https://idiomation.wordpress.com/2022/02/26/down-the-rat-hole/

That phrase is a reference to the book/movie Alice In Wonderland, so if there was something with one word changed, it would probably be a play on words instead of its own phrase.

You can say you fell down a ["k-hole,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-hole)" but it's not a variation on "down the rabbit hole," it's its own thing.

“Doing a deep dive on [topic]” is sort of similar, but admittedly not what you’re asking for.

"Down the memory hole", maybe? It's a reference to the classic novel 1984, but it's really uncommon. Also "sucked into a rabbit hole" or "fell down a rabbit hole", but they're both also really uncommon.
