British Accent Feedback

British Accent Feedback

I'm not even sure if it's British. People often say I sound like an American trying to imitate a British accent or that it is a mixture of both. Anyway, I have a few questions about it. 1. Does it sound amusing or irritating? 2. Does it sound too posh? 3. If you had to guess where I come from, what would you say? 4. What's your personal opinion on accents? Do you think people tend to look down on those with a strong accent or treat them differently?

Hey that sounded cool. I’m not a native English speaker, but apart from some words here and there, it sounded pretty legit. Sometimes sounds a bit American or even German. I think what you said about accents is true. It makes a lot of difference to how people perceive you. Anyways you’re on a great track. Keep at it !

Non-native speaker here. 1. Yes, a bit of both... But rest assured it's definitely British-like. 2. No, just a bit ;) To sound less posh, try pronouncing your /ɔ/ sounds more open and less like /o/, and replace your tapped /t/ with normal /t/ or glottal stops. 3. The Netherlands (or Flanders haha) or a Scandinavian country. I can't recognise any particular accents in your recording, that's why. 4. As a non-native speaker who speak English with other non-natives at work everyday, I do think a strong accent can hinder communication and makes it hard to connect with people. And accent tends to be overlooked in language learning due to various reasons - it's hard to teach and some people just don't have an ear for it.

hello there I actually loved how your accent sound ! I am technically British but thanks to history my family has been living overseas for 200 years (cyprus and prinkipos island in istanbul) so unfortunately I dindt have the chance to visit my own country England But I know and sure about how accents sound to us and I think yours is pretty good 😊 I am also a bit curious about my accent because speaking and oldish rp (some say it sound like the royal accents) so I don’t know if it is true for me to comment on yours but it sounds cool the only thing I realised is in the word advance it sound American rather than British and some t’s sound a bit like the American way but keep going you are truly amazing stay brit 🇬🇧👼🏻
