Hello everyone,
can somebody help me to understand the word "banger" in the music context
Example: "90s R&B came out swinging with this banger" (Refering to a song)
Is it common in USA or UK? or both?
Thanks.

In the U.S. it is a common word, unsure of the U.K. though

A really good song. It's an older term, and I'm not sure if everyone would know what it is.
I'm trying to think if it has any other context beyond songs. Maybe food, but I haven't heard the term in a very long time.

It means that the song is incredibly great and catchy. However, this word is pretty informal, and I mostly only hear it used by teenagers. I am from the USA, and it is common, though I am unsure about the UK.

It’s common in the US at least, though I can’t speak to the UK. Originally meant a catchy or good song, but has since come to mean something great or exceptional, regardless of the context. It’s very informal, and used mostly by the younger generation.

It has become quite popular recently, it is mostly used to refer to a very good song. However, as with all slang terms, the usage has broadened, and you may see it used to refer to jokes, quips, statements, books, really anything. At least on the internet.

It means a song that's really good (with a slight connotation of high-energy, catchy, and danceable).
It's probably a shortened form of "head-banger", as in a song you would headbang to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headbanging

I always thought it was inspired by head-banging (heavy metal music.) Not sure if true. Gemini (AI) thinks it has to do with that, but also with the British slang for anything loud or explosive.
It has been extended to mean other things that get a very good response as well. A TV news comedian referred to his X feed as "banger after banger after banger" because his posts got hundreds of thousands of likes.
