I don't learning grammar

First_Pumpkin7819
While ı learning english ı just learn patterns and some words. I'm not learning grammar. An example ı can write this paragraph to myself and ı don't know it is true or false :D I am just reading english books, watching tv series with eng subtitles, reading something on social media etc. and what do you think ? Is it problem for the future ?

Yes, it's eventually going to be a major problem. Your vocabulary for instance is pretty clearly already a level or two beyond your grammar. Here are the grammar/usage mistakes I identify in this post: *While I learning English -->* While learning English *I just learn patterns and some words -->* I just learn patterns and words *An example I can write this paragraph -->* For example, I can write this paragraph *I don't know it is true or false -->* I can't tell if it is written correctly or not. *I am just reading -->* I just read (in English we express habitual action with the simple indicative, not the progressive) *and what do you think -->* Well, what do you think? **OR** So, what do you think? It's good to "learn by doing" and practice immersive learning, but supplementing that experience with actual grammar study is essential if you want to gain real fluency.

To be honest it is not really a problem. Maybe it's not the most efficient, but it still works. The grammar will become intuitive eventually.

The more patterns you learn, the less grammar you need. Every pattern is is piece of good grammar.

Your English is definitely understandable, but it’s probably not proficient enough to use it for a job.

Merhaba! (Türkçe seviyorum ama o çok zor! :-) A few things: Turkish is a SOV (Subject, Object, Verb) language.  English is a SVO (Subject, Verb, Object) language. So where you would say, "Kırmızı elmayı yerim", in English the direct translation would read, "red the, the (specific) apple, eat I am". Therefore, if you apply the same logic directly to English, your words and order will sound as clumsy as, "Ben yer ı-kırımzı elma" Because I want to learn Türkçe, if ever you have questions, lütfen, send me a DM arkadaşım! I'm a former teacher who majored in Linguistics.  İyi şanslar :-)

Yes, if you're thinking of working with other english speakers, they might not be able to understand you if you speak in the same way you write

I can understand this, but it took a few read-throughs. If we were speaking, I would have a very hard time. For example: "ı don't know it is true or false" - I can only parse what you mean here because of the rest of the paragraph. Even then, I'm just guessing. Your vocab seems good, but I'd wager you'd run into a lot of problems or misunderstandings during a conversation.

What you wrote sounds weird, but I can easily tell what you are trying to say. Not perfect, but not bad. Keep up the good work!

Hello there! I guess whether this is a problem or not depends a bit on why you're studying English. If you just want to casually talk to people or enjoy English speaking media, I think it's fine! But if you want to, for example, pursue education in an English speaking country or something, it would definitely help you to learn English grammar. I am an English as an additional language teacher in the United States, and I have several students who, like you, learned English by exposure (as adults) without formally studying. After even 20 years using English this way, they have poor or misunderstood grammar, making them difficult to understand for most English speakers and they still have a lot of difficulty expressing or understanding complex ideas in English. In second language acquisition theory, this is a common issue called "fossilization". This is very difficult to correct after a long time. NOW, whether you will end up like this depends on a lot of factors. You might or might not. But it is generally recommended to study grammar AND do what you're already doing to avoid this very thing. Most importantly, keep enjoying English and good luck!

A bit caveman sounding but understandable nonetheless so I guess it should be fine

On the bright side, I think you're doing quite well for someone who has no formal grammar training, and I had no trouble understanding what you meant :)

Please, learn grammar as well

If you want to achieve good grammar then you're gonna have to do something known as perfect practice. Practice being perfect. If what you tried is wrong then learn to fix it. With that said don't be too afraid of small fixes. Like you made 100 grammatical errors a day and only fix one, that's still progress. You could also try a laissez faire approach. Keep doing what you're doing and only make small changes for when your English attempts don't give you your desired result. I don't think this will lead to great grammar, but it'll eventually lead to good enough English.

It’s not terrible, I can understand what you’re saying at least. For your title I would say “I’m not learning grammar” for example. Remember that don’t means “do not”, and I’m meaning “I am”

Try talking with chatgpt, and write the first message as "you are an expert english teacher, your job is to correct any grammar mistakes I made and explain why, in a friendly and helpful manner" and then talk about whatever you want. It's a great way to learn language and practice

I can understand what you’re saying but it’s still kind of difficult to read. I think you would benefit from studying grammar

You are learning grammar, just not from a class. Also, whatever symbol you're using for the word "I" sometimes is incorrect. It's always a capital letter I.

I’m learning* don’t know if it’s correct* and is it a problem* but otherwise great english

While it’s sort of an unconventional approach, you can always pick up grammar through immersion. It’s like how a child might learn their native or even a second language, and it’s know to be extremely effective if you’re able to immerse fully. Even though your grammar is subpar right now, there’s the option to give it a few more years just to see how it might turn out. Fun fact, I actually learned English this way when I was a kid. It’s technically my second language, but no one can ever tell.

OP the type of panda to eat, shoot, and leave.

Patterns *are* grammar. I’d say pay a little more attention to auxiliary verbs, they’re often contracted or less stressed than other words in a sentence so they may go undetected if you’re just learning by ear.
