Many people dislike the word moist because it has an unpleasant sound, evokes associations with damp or sweaty things, and has gained a bad reputation through social influence and media

Since nobody has really answered, I guess I will.
Often, the term "moist" is used to refer to a woman being aroused. I think this has led to (childish) avoidance of the word.
Much like if someone said they were going to "erect a statue". There are lots of words like this that have taken on a more sexual meaning over time.
At least that's my guess.

I think it started with an episode of how I met your mother. One of the characters didn’t like the word and then the boring people who watch that show just adopted it as their own opinion.

There’s a condition called “Misophonia” where certain sounds can cause an intense emotional response including anxiety, anger and panic.
The word “moist” is a common Misoponia trigger. Along with things like the sound of someone chewing, the sound of a heart beat, scratching and loads more.

Because somebody popular on the Internet said they had a mental disorder focused around the word.

Think of it like that saying about "nails on a chalkboard"! Some people just don't like the sound of certain words.
