Word 'batter'

Low_Owl_730
Hello everyone 👋 I remember I came across the word 'batter' with the meaning 'small talk, chat' once but now I can't find it in the dictionaries. I know it's not its primary meaning but is it used in this sence? Am I mixing things up? 🤔

What you're describing is banter, not batter, and it's a bit more nuanced than simply small talk. It's used to describe amusing/playful exchanges, good natured gibes, teasing, etc.

Batter is what you use to make fish and chips. "He liked to banter with the restaurant owner about his secret recipe for their fish and chips batter".

You're right. However it's possible you encountered it in a more informal or regional way.

"banter" is probably what you mean, although I'd say it needs to have a humourous or teasing quality to be banter. There's also the Scottish English word "patter" which does more or less mean small talk or chat, commonly also with humourous tones.

Do you mean “banter?” Also, it’s *sense, not sence.

Batter is what (for example) cod is deep fried in. You’re thinking of banter

it's very common for podcast hosts to use the word "banter" about all their back-and-forth that isn't specifically about the topic.
