What does Trump mean here when talking about Barron?

AdHot24
In a very recent interview, Trump commented on his son's technological talent: “I turn off his laptop, I said, 'Oh good,' and I go back five minutes later, he's got his laptop. I said, 'How'd you do that?' " he recalled. "'None of your business, Dad.' " Like, what is the logical link between "turn off his laptop" and "oh good"? And what does "got his laptop" even mean?

Do not try to learn English by reading what Trump says. A lot of people mock him for rambling, changing his train of thought mid sentence, saying things that don't make sense, ect. If a significant number of native speakers think he doesn't make sense, you won't be able to make sense of it either.

What it means is at least one of them is an imbecile, I think.

The logical link is that Trump is glad Barron wasn’t on a computer for a bit. Whether or not that’s Trump just being old or Barron having a computer problem isn’t something I know, but the idea is just that Trump wants Barron off computers at least for some time.

I think the point is supposed to be that Trump is turning off his kid's laptop, possibly because he wants him to be on the computer less, and then coming back to find that the kid has turned it back on, which Trump, being technologically ignorant, takes as a sign that his kid's some sort of computer genius.

If I had to guess, I would say this is Trump simply reaffirming what he just said. When older people tell these stories about their kids, they usually have a certain rhythm about them that requires a longer set up and short punchline. It would go something like this: 1 - Event 2 - Reaction to that event - sayings like ”oh ok”, “i didnt think nothing of it”, “i found it suspicious but” 3 - “I go back later”/ “I turn around” / “and then i realize [twist]” 4- punchline I think he had no relevant response to the first event to use as a segue into the next, so he just said pretty much a non sequitur to fill space.

Trump wants Barron’s laptop to be off, so Trump turns it off. He says, “oh good,” because the laptop is off. Trump leaves the room. Barron turns his laptop back on. Trump comes back into the room and sees that the laptop is back on. He thinks, “oh no, he’s got the laptop back on!” “He’s got the laptop…” really is “he’s got the laptop *on*,” which means “he turned the laptop on, and it is currently on.”

Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense to native speakers either. Trump has never been one to really adhere to coherent narrative structure or grammar. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do not look for logic in anything Trump says. And do not learn English from him. Please.

Do not use Trump as an example of adequate English.

"He's got his laptop" = "He has his laptop"

If you are learning English, please don't read or listen to anything Trump says. Just do yourself that favor.

There's no logical link. I saw the video and it didn't really make much sense.
