“You do you” usually refers to a shortening of “you do what you want” or “you do your thing”. Its usually fo suggest the person do whatever they want independently and without judgement. However to “do” something or someone can be a euphemism for sex. Meaning if that’s applied “you do you” is telling the person to have sex with themselves which is what “go fuck yourself” also means. The two terms would never actually be confused or used interchangeably. It’s just a joke about the potential use of the words.

To "do" someone is slang for having sex with them. So with that in mind, "you do you" would mean "go have sex with yourself" or more to the point "go fuck yourself". But that's not what "you do you" means in reality. The way everyone uses it means "do what makes you happy" or "do what you want to do".

Generally, "you do you" tells someone to be themselves or to do what they were planning. But the full meaning depends on context. Sometimes it's encouragement for a person to chart their own path. Sometimes it's dismissive, in that the speaker is indicating the person is disregarding good advice or common sense. The joke is that "do" can mean "to have sex," if the context itself is sexual. Thus, telling someone "you do you" is, under that meaning, "have sex with yourself." Or, "go fuck yourself."

"You do you" just means "Do what makes you happy" or "Just do your thing, don't care about what others think"

In slang, to “do” someone is to have sex with someone, so if someone says, “you do you,” it’s basically saying “you have sex with you.” It’s not really correct or anything and no one thinks of it like that.

The phrase is discussed in depth here: [https://ygdp.yale.edu/phenomena/you-do-you](https://ygdp.yale.edu/phenomena/you-do-you) In casual speech, the tone used for "You do you" can convey a lot of the implications. Said with an upbeat tone, it can work to encourage people to do what's best for themselves. When it's said with a critical tone, it can imply disapproval but distance. Another common way to express the same subtle disapproval is "That's a choice."

The meme is incorrect. Do in the sense of having sex is slang so it wouldn't be literal.
TRH-17•
Just means "do whatever you want"

When I use it, I usually mean that it wouldn't be my first choice or how I would do something, buy they should do what they think best or that makes them happy.

it just means what it says. you do as you'd do. But yeah its mean
Improvisable•
Not the question but "How does it even mean?" Doesn't make sense, a better alternative might be "What does it even mean?"

“You do you” means “you do whatever you want”.

The South we say it like aight you do you. Basically means you got this and we'll check later to see if that was a good option to leave you.

this is just a joke. To do can refer to sex, like "Let's do it tonight", and "He's doing it with her". So the joke is that you do you would mean go fuck yourself if we apply the same meaning to it. "you do you" can mean a few things depending on context and tone. In a positive light, it can mean don't worry about what others think, just keep doing what you're doing. In a negative light, it can mean I don't like what you're doing or disagree with you, but I don't have the energy to fight you on it, so do what you want.

You do your good luck and we'll be back to fix it later. Bless their hearts. Most times it's legit. Folks figure it out. Sometimes it's well hell. Gonna fix it but ya did gud trying. Pay attention now.

You do you. I'll do me. And we won't do each other. Probably.

To be clear not a formal term so don’t worry about it too much

"You do you" is a phrase meaning 'do your own thing! Who cares what I think?' it's a way of dismissing someone's behaviour as odd in some way, while expressing that it doesn't bother you. Just saying "that's weird" or "that's odd" sound like your subtly asking them to stop, saying "you do you" is like "you're weird but that doesn't bother me". "Do" is a way of saying "have sex with" - immediately I'm sure you'd feel like this could lead to misunderstandings but it never does. There is practically no other time when you would say "do + name/pronoun(besides it)" unless you mean have sex with. "Fuck" as a verb always means this, such that it with any object means have sex with. "I fucked the tree" does just mean you had sex with it, where as "I did the tree" could maybe mean that YOU designed it (as opposed to somebody else) or made it or shaped it idk, context! So "you do you" (which if this meme were true would be "you do yourself", but the memes a joke so it's fine) could be construed as "have sex with yourself" much like "fuck yourself", this is like the phrase "go fuck yourself". Should note in your question you put "how does it even mean?" Ik this is how it works in many languages but in english this is strictly wrong and it would be immediately noticed by a native speaker as very odd or funny sounding. "What does it even mean?" Makes sense and works, Another one: "How is it called?" Is wrong, it'd be "what is it called" One exception, and this is a lone exception, could be the phrase "how do you mean?" In stead of "what do you mean" but this carries a slightly different nuance, and in some contexts may sound a bit fancy, that is also a set phrase, you can't say "how does he mean" or anything EDIT: just saw you replying to another comment saying this is you being silly! Sorry about that, I won't delete the explanation in case someone else with the same issue somehow comes across it, but just ignore it! For the record it totally works to sound silly, like in speech with a silly tone of voice it would be completely fine to say this and would probably be quite funny (:

What do you do you?

As a lifelong masturbator, I endorse this message.

Think of the second “you” broadly, like “your way of life and your way of doing things”, and the first as just an explicit indication of the imperative subject. So it basically means “Continue to live your life the way you have been”

Lol I have never thought of that

I'm not sure how prevalent "do" meaning sex/fuck is these days. It was very big in the 90s, as a fairly gender neutral non-aggressive term. Phrases like "I wanna do you", "she's totally doing him" etc. But slang ages fast.

That's kind of like how '#' used to be called 'pound sign' so #MeToo means 'pound me too'

That's a nice expression!
