That's the heel. The other end is the toes. (I am kidding about the other end being the toes, of course they're both heels.)

From the American Heritage Dictionary: >[**heel¹**](https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=heel) (hēl) *n.* **3.** One of the crusty ends of a loaf of bread. The crust is of course the whole outer layer, not just the end piece.

I normally say the butt, or the ends. I don’t know if that’s just what we say locally (American Midwest)

The butt, the end piece, or the heel will all make sense to an English speaker.
kooshipuff
I grew up calling them "end pieces." We would also call it "the butt" or "butt bread" to be silly when we were kids. And now that I make bread, I call slices that include the end "heels" though I couldn't really say why it feels different to me (maybe because it's not pre-sliced, so they're not really 'pieces' until I cut them?) But if someone said "end piece" or "heel" about either, I'd understand them.

In my family, we used to call it “end bread”, and we used to fight over those pieces. I had no idea other people didn’t like it until we went to a fancy restaurant one day. I was about 8 years old and the waiter came to me with the bread basket and offered me to take a piece. I started reaching for the end piece and he says “that’s the heel”. I continue to reach for it and he says forcefully “that’s the heel, you don’t eat that.” I looked at my mom quizzically and she just shrugged. It was at that moment I realized that our family was doing something shameful and that we shouldn’t tell other people about it. So I grabbed another piece of bread, one of the middle slices, and tried not to think about how they were just going to waste the “heel” and throw it out. I also never told anybody else ever again that I enjoyed eating the end piece.

Once had a guy (native English speaker like me) who was CONVINCED it was called the "cuppy." Why, I have no clue! Everyone else agreed "cuppy" was not a word. The two most common words for it are the "heel" of the bread or the "end" of the bread, but apparently there are a LOT of other valid terms as well and it depends on region.
